A third-party logistics (3PL) request for proposal (RFP) is a formal business document that outlines the specific requirements and scope of work required by a shipping company in order to solicit a logistics provider capable of getting the job done. A successful RFP provides all the necessary information for bidders to understand your distribution needs and accurately propose solutions.
The RFP process is a communication between a shipping company and logistics provider. Shippers will issue a Request for Proposal to a 3PL provider who will review and decide whether to propose a solution. A shipper will then evaluate if the response meets the requirements and is a suitable solution to the problems outlined in the RFP.
A well-constructed Request for Proposal should assist logistics providers in understanding their role in the project, while identifying solutions and providing accurate project pricing.
