All About Reefer Logistics
Reefer truck equipment is used for any shipment that requires its temperature to be monitored and maintained within specific requirements. All modes of freight can be equipped with Reefer units including FTL (Full Truckload), LTL (Less Than Truckload), intermodal shipping, rail, and ocean & air.
The sensitive nature of perishable cargo requires comprehensive management and flexibility in order to maximize shelf life, freshness, and maintain product integrity. Reefer equipment typically differs from Van and Flatbed in that it is often heavier than dry equipment. As a result, temperature-controlled units do not have the same loading capacity as dry units due to the Reefer equipment typically being heavier. Reefer truck equipment floors are often made of aluminum rather than wood, meaning shippers may need to adjust how the product is loaded to prevent damage in-transit.
